Rang Rover Evoque Convertible.

“A convertible SUV are you joking” yep, this was the reaction of mob when Range Rover Evoque convertible was launched 3 years back at Los Angeles Motor show. Means who would have thought that British SUV maker would through such an oddball and start a new car segment i.e. convertible SUV’s. Even several months after they started showing up on dealer forecourts, usually sufficient time for the gloss to fade on all but the most unexpected exotica, the Evoque convertible still turns head.
And now this one of a kind car is going to make its debut in INDIA on 27th March 2018. Since the day TATA industries acquired Jaguar-Land Rover group, the company has achieved heights. We all know that TATA loves to do experiment with their cars like using Harman Kardon speakers in is mid-range hatchback Tiago which are also used in Jaguar cars and Evoque convertible is also an example of this creativity. The droptop SUV comes with an i,  which is also used in Range Rover Velar.
So, I will be dividing this review into 4 segments and those segments are Engine, Looks, Interior and features. So, “Let’s talk about Tech”.
1.     Ah, let’s see what’s under that hood: the engine
The Indian Version of this car comes with Jaguar-Land Rovers latest 2.0 litre 4-cylinder Igenium petrol engine which also comes in Range Rover Velar and Jaguar XE. It produces a maximum power of 240bhp and a peak torque of 340Nm to play with- though 9 speed transmission can be frustrating at times but one relief is that it comes with all-time four-wheel drive system. But there are lags while shifting gears means it is not as smooth as its big brother. Meanwhile switch to sports mode and things get a lot more frenetic. Happily, there are paddle shifter to take control manually. Range Rover Evoque convertible can reach 100km/h in 8.1 seconds and this 4-cyclinder engine is able to give this car a top speed of 217km/h.

Evoque convertible is a thirsty beast having a mileage of only 20 miles per gallon according to EPA. It also gets an active drive line feature.

2.     Oh, that curve: looks
The all new Range Rover Evoque convertible is based on 2 door version of SUV and has every basic feature of a SUV except the convertible roof top which is made up of fabric. The roof top drops in 18 second and raises in 22 seconds and can be operated at 48km/hr. Land Rover claims that roof uses special acoustic inner lining that reduces the road noise and enhances the cabin insulation, company also claims to have installed a wind deflector on the wind screen that reduces the wind noise when the roof is open. The old profile has been carried over till shoulder line and the A-pillar are beefed up for strength. In the front more, black elements have been introduced to provide a sporty look.
Original signature head lamps and tail lamps has been carried over to convertible. Rear fenders are also changed to include convertible roof top in it but they are nearly same to the original one.
Though being a convertible, it looks majorly like a SUV only because of that masculine curves and grills.

3.     Mm, this leather smell: the interior
Interior has been tweaked quite a bit. Its comes with a 10.2-inch infotainment system having a super wide resolution and with latest connectivity options including Apple car play and Android auto. Dashboard is dressed in black leather and looks so amazing. It has Perforated Windsar leather seats and 12-way electric front seats with memory with configurable ambient interior lighting. It also has illuminated aluminium front trade plates with Range Rover script features. On the safety front there are front and side bags with ESP and rollover protection system that deploys in 90 milliseconds.
In the back there is space for two adults comfortably. The roof pillars do intrude a little bit and take out a bite out of shoulder room.

As the convertible Evoque is smaller than standard Evoque its effect can be seen directly in the trunk space as convertible Evoque’s boot space is 6 times less then standard Evoque which is very les for a SUV.
The convertible roof though plays a very major role and gives the same feel as a non-removable top because of its such good features (explained earlier).

4.     Feature’s
It has two doors with body coloured door handles, power fold seats with heating, heated door river with memory functionality, leather trim and key less entry. Its comes with an inbuilt 380W Meridian audio system. It has some sensors like rain sensing windscreen wipers, front and rear parking sensor, blind spot monitoring, heated steering wheels and washer jets.
It has 20-spoke alloy wheels, connected navigation services and SiriusXM. It also has Rang Rovers all other features like dynamic stability control, hill descent control, trailer stability assist, hill start assist an electron rear differential and active torque biasing with four mode terrain response system.

Personal Review
Range Rover Evoque convertible is a unique car as there is no other car like this in the market but according to me this car lacks at some points when compared with standard Evoque. According to speculations it is going to launch with an Ex-showroom price of 80 lakhs (approx.) which is around 20 lakhs more than standard Evoque which is a drawback according to me. So, for me this car is for those people who have some extra money. But all over this is a good package and would love to drive it with roof down on Indian roads.
