Hey guys let me introduce you to the mobile phone brand which has overtaken the lower budget customer market of India with one of its close friend oppo. Yes my dear friends all your guesses are perfectly correct. I am talking about vivo. The mobile phone brand which is hated by many has been brought by more. Even though it is the only smartphone brand which I hate it certainly has done its best work till date by introducing the most awaited On-Screen Fingerprint technology which was dropped by apple in iPhone X to the world in its new phone which is still unnamed and unknown when it will be launched. In this article I will brief you about each and every aspect of this technology and some unknown facts about the brand VIVO.
What VIVO actually is?
Vivo is a Chinese company which designs, develops and manufactures smartphones. Founded in 2009 in China, Vivo was the first company to introduce a 2k-resolution display smartphone in the market in 2013. It was ranked among the top 10 smartphone makers of the world in the first quarter of 2015. It has also landed a sponsorship contract of 5 years with Indian Premier League (IPL) and the same contract with FIFA and Indian Kabaddi League.
The parent company of VIVO is BBK Electronics which also owns OPPOYou will also get shocked to know that VIVO’s brother OPPO actually owns OnePlus which is one of the most famous companies in western market. Also, according to Forbes, OPPO and VIVO were ranked 4th and 5th   in the list of top mobile manufacturers in the world and now if we compile these results we find that BBK electronic comes 3rd in the list after Apple and Samsung in the list.
Understanding the technology
Types of fingerprint sensors
Fingerprint sensors are of three types
1.     Optical
Optical fingerprint sensors are common in market and can be easily spotted in fingerprint sensors used in ATM’s, attendance machines, etc. This type of fingerprint sensor uses light to detect fingerprint. An optical source is fitted inside, when you put your finger on the sensor the light which cannot move out bounces back and produces an image of your finger that is why these sensors are not that accurate and slow. They are also the cheapest options in comparison to other fingerprint sensors.

2.     Capacitive
Fingerprint sensors which you see in smartphones nowadays are examples of capacitive fingerprint sensors. This type of sensors uses electronic circuit in it. When your finger touches the sensor, it detects the ridges of your finger and not the pattern. That is why these types of sensors are faster.

3.     Ultrasonic
As the name indicates, ultrasonic sensors measure distance by using ultrasonic waves and receive the waves reflected back from the target. These sensors are still in their development stage when it comes to their use in mobile phone technology.

What technology has VIVO USED?
A company named Synaptics has developed this technology. Earlier Samsung was working with Synaptics to develop this technology and was thinking to introduce it with Galaxy S8 but due to shortage of time they dropped this plan and VIVO took complete advantage. In this technology fingerprint sensor is actually present under the screen of the smartphone. It’s an optical fingerprint sensor with Artificial Intelligence (AI) it will only appear when you need it and will be hidden for rest of the time.
Also, this technology can only be used in phones which have OLED display and not with IPS LCD display phones as LCD screen require a backlit to illuminate it which makes it impossible for such sensors to be placed behind the screen. Optical sensors use light to detect fingerprint and with backlit and screen in front of it will not be able to detect the finger.
This is a growing technology and still in its development phase therefore there are some problems that we might face like unlock speed might become slow.

My Opinion
This technology will grow in the near future. According to me 2018 is going to be the year of on screen fingerprint technology with companies like One Plus and Samsung who have already announced their upcoming flagships with this technology however, people's eyes would be glued to Apple. Will apple sacrifice its Face ID in competition to this or will apply both in its upcoming iPhone?
The best competition will be between Synaptics and Qualcomm which is also going to introduce its ultrasonic fingerprint sensor this year.
It’s time to get ready and get going as it is going to be one hell of a year for smartphone geeks or new tech lovers.
